Coastal Management in the Arabian Gulf
Capacity Building

In keeping with UNU-INWEH’s mandate as a UN agency, we consider our role to include outreach and capacity-building, within Nakheel, more generally in Dubai, and in the wider region. To this end, we are undertaking a number of activities that will raise capacity for sustainable marine environmental management. These include the engagement of graduate and undergraduate students from the region on the project, development of collaborations with management agency or academic scientists in the region, and the mentoring of staff within Nakheel and EHS-Trakhees. They also include training workshops on relevant topics, both in-house to Nakheel Environment Department personnel, and regionally to environmental managers from around the Gulf. We have continued our seminar series within Nakheel, with seminars on a diversity of topics specific to the project, offered by various members of the team, on an approximately six-week schedule through the year.
