Environmental Monitoring Program (EMP)

The Environmental Monitoring Program (EMP) commenced in 2007 and ended in November 2009. Monitoring and research was primarily conducted at Palm Jumeirah (Figure 1), with some monitoring also occurring at Palm Jebel Ali, and at natural reefs nearby (Figure 2). An offshore monitoring site 15km northwest of Palm Jumeirah was established and instrumented. |

In addition to research and monitoring in the immediate vicinity of the Nakheel developments, surveys were conducted to determine the natural ecology of the Gulf so this could be compared to the waters of the eastern UAE and Oman. The aim was to improve our ability to detect and understand any environmental changes caused by the presence of the Nakheel developments.
