Research Technician, Coastal Programme

Mr. Andrew Bauman, originally from the U.S., has spent the last 10 years living and working in Micronesia and the Indo-Pacific. Andrew completed his Master’s degree at James Cook University in Australia under Dr. Bette Willis. He examined the role of timing patterns and synchrony of mass spawning hard corals (Acropora species) on the Central Great Barrier Reef. After completing his Masters in 2003, Andrew accepted the position of Marine Chief for the Palau Government under the Office of the President of the Republic of Palau. During his four year tenure with the Palau Government he was responsible for all pertinent marine research, collection and verification of scientific data used for marine environmental monitoring and policies, conservation management and sustainable development planning. In addition, he represented the Palau Government at various environmental conventions under the United Nations and numerous international conferences relating to the conservation of coral reef ecosystems. Andrew is currently based in Dubai, working with UNU-INWEH to develop a long-term ecological monitoring program for the Dubai off-shore coastal developments.
