Dr. Björn Kjerfve
Dean of the College of Geosciences at Texas A&M University

Dr. Björn Kjerfve has been the Dean of the College of Geosciences at Texas A&M University since 2004, and is also a Professor of Oceanography and Geography. He is a coastal physical oceanographer with research interests in linking physical processes to ecology in a variety of coastal environments in South America, the Caribbean, Southeast Asia, and the southeastern US. He has published extensively on the oceanography of bays, coastal lagoons, estuaries, and coastal waters; responses of coastal systems to climate and anthropogenic changes; ecology of mangrove, salt marshes, and coral reef systems; and modeling of oceanic and river flow and transport processes. He is involved in several interdisciplinary and multi-institutional coastal research projects in different parts of the world, and has supervised some 40 PhD and MS students. Prior to joining Texas A&M University, Kjerfve served as professor of marine and geological sciences at the University of South Carolina for 31 years.
