Dr. Charles Trick

Beryl Ivey Chair, Ecosystem Health, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry
Professor of Microbiology and Immunology, University of Western Ontario

Dr. Charles Trick is the Beryl Ivey Chair for Ecosystem Health in the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry. In this capacity, he and his colleagues investigate environmental situations where the health and well-being of either human populations or natural communities are affected by human activity. His primary research interest, as Professor of Microbiology and Immunology, Department of Biology, University of Western Ontario, is how subtle differences in nutrient concentration and supply alter the composition and function of marine phytoplankton communities. His work has focused primarily on marine food chain structures of coastal waters containing Harmful Algal Bloom species and in mesoscale iron-fertilization projects in the nitrate rich waters of the Pacific Ocean. He has performed research in the north and equatorial Pacific Ocean, the Bering Sea, the coastal waters off Washington State and British Columbia, the Laurentian Great Lakes, Lake Naivasha (Kenya) and Antarctica.
