Dr. Elise Marquis
Research Associate, Coastal Programme

Dr. Elise Marquis, research associate with UNU-INWEH, is a marine ecologist with a PhD from the University of La Rochelle, France. During her PhD thesis, she studied the structure, functioning and dynamics of the planktonic wood web in the Bay of Biscay (Atlantic coast of France). This study of plankton, from bacteria to mesozooplankton, in the Bay of Biscay, focused on protist compartment dynamics and its role in pelagic food webs. During this project, Elise participated in seven oceanographic cruises. She also used modelling methods such as inverse analysis to study system capacity for exporting biogenic carbon to pelagic and benthic predators. Within the Dubai project, Elise is studying plankton ecology within and around the palm lagoons and investigating plankton community dynamics and relationships with water column environmental conditions.
