Coastal Ecosystems at a Glance
Coastal zones comprise the most productive yet highly threatened ecosystems in the world. Current management practices are inadequate, partly due to lack of resources, legal structures, and political will, but also because of fundamental gaps in our understanding of coastal ecosystems and the long term impact of human activities. UNU-INWEH's Coastal Ecosystems Programme focuses on improving scientific understanding through research and capacity development in an attempt to foster sound decision making.
