Do you have a commitment towards addressing issues of international importance related to water, environment and health? Are you looking for a research-focused work experience within the United Nations? If so, you may be interested in the UNU-INWEH Internship Programme.

"My internship at UNU-INWEH gave me insight into the UN system, and the possibility to work on a variety of interesting water-related topics. Interacting with experts and participating in their work was a very valuable experience."

Lucie Vermeulen (The Netherlands)

2011 Intern

“One of the best things about this internship is that the UNU-INWEH has created a balance between teaching and coaching and a sophisticated level of integration into the day to day proceedings of the office, which allows the intern to be challenged and pushed in a respectful and safe environment, open to questions and concerns.”

Krista Taylor (Canada)
2010 Intern

“Indeed, the possibilities of working directly with high-level specialists on specific cases, touching on issues of water management in connection with the problems of desertification, population health, and climate change, among others, make the UNU-INWEH internship program in Hamilton, a perfect place for any student.”

Ibrahima Ba (Mali)
2010 Intern

"This internship allowed me to work on a variety of interdisciplinary research projects directly related to my interest in water issues. Having never worked for a UN organization, this internship was a great opportunity to learn about cutting-edge research projects with in the United Nations University system and participate in them first hand."

Gemma Boag (Canada)

2009 Intern

UNU-INWEH provides an opportunity for selected graduate students and recent graduates to work in an international environment and experience first-hand the operations of the United Nations. In this volunteer program, graduate students and recent graduates contribute to UN water research and training projects and play a direct role in meeting the massive water challenges faced in developing countries. Interacting with staff members involved in multi-country projects and research programs, UNU-INWEH interns help disseminate critical knowledge and organize international meetings.

During the six years of operation, starting in 2004, interns from a wide variety of countries, including Canada, France, India, Mali, Mexico, Pakistan, United Kingdom, and United States of America, have participated in this programme. Here are some of their views on the UNU-INWEH internship programme.

Upon completion of the programme, you will be part of the amazing global UNU-INWEH Alumni Network. Thus, if you think that the UNU-INWEH Internship Programme could be your next step towards contributing to global issues concerning water, environment and health; check if you meet all the Eligibility Requirements, and if so submit your application as detailed in the Application Procedure.

We look forward to receiving your application!
