UNU-INWEH and the Water Center for the Humid Tropics of Latin America and the Caribbean (CATHALAC) recently signed an Agreement of Cooperation to jointly establish and operate a United Nations Water Virtual Learning Centre (WVLC) at CATHALAC to service the needs of the Latin America and the Caribbean region.

The signing of this agreement took place on Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at the Bristol Hotel.

The Agreement of Cooperation was signed by Dr. Zafar Adeel, Director of UNU-INWEH and Mr. Emilio Sempris, Director of CATHALAC.

The main purposes of WVLC are to improve water resource management and water services of developing countries and to improve training and education through distance learning in the water sector. This post graduate programme comprises an online, course curriculum, with a UNU academic diploma provided to graduates.

CATHALAC was established in 1992 and is an international organization that promotes sustainable human development through integrated watershed and environment management in Latin America and the Caribbean.
