Spanish version of WVLC initiated in Panama
UNU-INWEH and the Water Center for the Humid Tropics of
Latin America and the Caribbean (CATHALAC) recently signed
an Agreement of Cooperation to jointly establish and operate
a United Nations Water Virtual Learning Centre (WVLC) at
CATHALAC to service the needs of the Latin America and the
Caribbean region.
The signing of this agreement took place
on Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at the Bristol Hotel.
The Agreement of Cooperation was signed by
Dr. Zafar Adeel, Director of UNU-INWEH and Mr. Emilio
Sempris, Director of CATHALAC.
The main purposes of WVLC are to improve
water resource management and water services of developing
countries and to improve training and education through
distance learning in the water sector. This post graduate
programme comprises an online, course curriculum, with a UNU
academic diploma provided to graduates.
CATHALAC was established in 1992 and is an
international organization that promotes sustainable human
development through integrated watershed and environment
management in Latin America and the Caribbean.
