Project
Activities:
A brief overview of the
project activities is provided here:
-
A
comprehensive assessment
methodology for integrated natural resource
management will be developed. It will comprise the
following three elements: state of existing natural
resources; characterization of stresses; and description
of indigenous, adaptive and innovative approaches.
-
For each
project site, a site assessment
will be made using the comprehensive assessment
methodology.
-
A
compilation of practices for
sustainable soil and water conservation
will be made in cooperation with the local
communities. Practices involving traditional knowledge as
well as modern expertise will be evaluated.
-
Site-specific training activities
on handling of data collection and inventory techniques as
well as on proven management technologies will be carried
out.
-
At each
site, one to two
income-generating activities, based on the
sustainable use of dryland natural resources, will be
explored and supported within the financial means of the
project.
-
National,
sub-regional and regional
workshops and group training programmes will be
organized.
-
Annual
project management meetings
will be held as a means to harmonize project
implementation, to exchange information and experience,
and if needed, to adjust work plans.
-
The
project results will be disseminated through
publications in
English, which will be widely distributed by the project
partners through their respective distribution channels.
